A passenger bus travelling from Kanpur to Delhi caught fire on the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura district on Thursday, prompting passengers to jump out through windows and doors to escape. Fire services and police later brought the blaze under control, and no serious injuries were reported.
The incident occurred near milestone 110 under the Raya police station limits in Mathura. According to eyewitnesses, smoke suddenly began emerging from the moving bus before it was quickly engulfed in flames. Traffic on the expressway was temporarily disrupted as other vehicles stopped.
Passengers said the fire spread rapidly, forcing them to evacuate immediately. Some passengers jumped out before the bus came to a complete halt, while children and women were helped out first. A few passengers sustained minor injuries, but none were reported to be seriously hurt.

Police and fire brigade teams reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. Firefighters brought the fire under control after sustained efforts, while police managed traffic and moved passengers to a safe location.
The bus was completely gutted in the fire. Authorities said the cause of the blaze is under investigation, with an initial possibility of a technical fault or short circuit, though no official confirmation has been made.
The bus was carrying several passengers, including Ejaz, Atul, Shyam Singh, Sonu, Saroj, Uma, Ajay Soni, Shivani, Aarti and Dayaram. The passengers were later sent toward their destination through alternative arrangements.
Similar incidents have been reported earlier in Uttar Pradesh. In November last year, a Delhi–Varanasi sleeper bus caught fire in Kanpur, forcing passengers to jump out to save their lives. That double-decker bus was carrying around 30 to 40 passengers, and the fire had started on the upper deck. Police later rescued passengers who were trapped in the upper berths.
