CM Rekha Gupta Leads Delhi's Post-Chhath Cleanliness Drive, Urges Public Participation

After the Chhath Mahaparv, the Delhi government launched a cleanliness drive in the capital. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta herself initiated the campaign by sweeping and stated that protecting the environment and maintaining cleanliness is the responsibility of both the government and the public.

New Delhi: Following the grandeur of Chhath Mahaparv, the Delhi government has now launched a campaign to make the capital clean and beautiful once again. On Tuesday, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the “Clean Delhi, Beautiful Delhi” mission from Vasudev Ghat on the Yamuna bank near Kashmiri Gate. The Chief Minister herself commenced the cleanliness drive by sweeping and appealed to citizens for active participation.

Clean-up Drive at Ghats After Chhath

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the Delhi government conducts cleanliness campaigns after every major festival to maintain the city's beauty and hygiene post-celebration. She said, “Every festival is truly complete only when our surroundings also appear clean and pleasant afterwards. Cleanliness is not just the administration's job, but every citizen's moral duty.”

The government has deployed special cleaning teams at all major Yamuna ghats and canals in Delhi. These teams comprise joint personnel from the Municipal Corporation, Environment Department, and Public Works Department. The Chief Minister instructed officials to complete waste disposal and ghat cleaning work as soon as possible to control pollution.

Environmental Protection is Everyone's Responsibility

During the launch of the cleanliness drive, Development Minister Kapil Mishra and the Municipal Commissioner were also present. The Chief Minister stated that making the ghats clean and environmentally friendly again after a major festival like Chhath Puja is a shared responsibility. She mentioned that the government has launched special cleaning missions after Diwali, Valmiki Jayanti, and now Chhath, to ensure cleanliness in every corner of Delhi.

The Chief Minister said that a clean environment is the hallmark of a healthy society. She explained that the objective of this campaign is not just to clean, but to raise awareness among people so that future generations can make cleanliness a part of their lives.

Appeal for Officials and Citizens to Join

Chief Minister Gupta stated that Chhath Puja was celebrated in hundreds of colonies and ghats across Delhi. It is now essential that all regional officers, public representatives, and volunteers collectively focus on cleanliness. She said, “Cleanliness is not a one-day event, but a continuous habit. Real change in the city comes only when the government and the public work together.”

She appealed to Delhi residents to focus on cleaning their homes, roads, and public places, and to avoid littering. The Chief Minister also announced that the government would launch a new scheme called “Swachhta Sathi” (Cleanliness Partner) in the coming months, under which local youth would be associated with the cleanliness campaign.

Chief Minister Delivers Message of Clean Delhi

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's step is considered a significant initiative not only towards cleanliness but also towards the goal of a pollution-free Delhi. The government stated that similar cleanliness drives would be conducted in all wards of the capital in the coming days.

In her address, the Chief Minister said, “Only when every citizen considers cleanliness their duty will Delhi truly become beautiful and healthy. This is not just a government program, but a public movement.”
