Cyclone Montha Brings Rain to North India; Andhra Pradesh Faces School Closures and Train Cancellations

The impact of Cyclone Montha has reached North India. Rain is expected in Delhi-NCR, UP, and Bihar. Schools are closed and trains cancelled in Andhra Pradesh. IMD has issued a warning to exercise caution.

Cyclone Montha: The cyclonic storm 'Montha' (Cyclone Montha), formed in the Bay of Bengal, is now moving past coastal areas and starting to affect the weather in North India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that Montha is expected to make landfall in the coastal parts of Andhra Pradesh today, Tuesday. Due to its impact, several states across the country are likely to experience rain and cool winds.

According to IMD, the cyclone will hit the coast at a speed of about 100 kilometers per hour. Its maximum impact will be seen in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal. Authorities have issued an alert in the coastal areas of these states and advised people to stay away from the shore.

Alert in Andhra Pradesh, Schools and Trains Closed

Given the threat of Montha, the Andhra Pradesh government has taken several precautionary measures. Orders have been issued to keep schools and colleges closed in coastal districts. Several flights have been cancelled, and South Central Railway has suspended 54 trains under the Vijayawada Division.

An Orange Alert has been issued for Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, and Mulugu districts of the state, while a Yellow Alert has been declared for the northeastern districts. Heavy rainfall is also predicted in Odisha for the next two to three days.

Weather to Change in Delhi-NCR

Amidst the impact of Montha, Delhi-NCR (Delhi-NCR) will also experience a change in weather. According to the Meteorological Department, due to an active Western Disturbance, skies will remain cloudy for the next two days, with chances of light rain.

The rain will bring down temperatures in Delhi and surrounding areas, making the weather pleasant. The department stated that this light rainfall could also improve air quality.

Signs of Rain and Cool Winds in UP Too

The indirect impact of Montha is also beginning to be seen in Uttar Pradesh. Many districts in the state have been cloudy since Monday night. Light rain has been recorded in areas like Banda, Fatehpur, Jalaun, and Kanpur.

In the capital Lucknow, the movement of clouds and drizzle have brought relief from humidity. A drop in temperature has been observed — the maximum temperature decreased by 3.8 degrees Celsius to reach 28 degrees Celsius. However, a slight increase in night temperatures led to humidity persisting in some areas.

According to IMD, light to moderate rainfall is expected in over 50 districts of the state from Tuesday to Thursday. Additionally, the maximum temperature could drop by up to three degrees Celsius.

Greater Impact of Cyclone Montha in Bihar

The impact of Montha is anticipated to be greater in Bihar compared to Uttar Pradesh, as the state is a neighbor of Odisha and the cyclone's direction is towards the northeast.

Districts like Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur, and Darbhanga will remain cloudy for the next few days, with light to moderate rainfall possible in some areas.

A drop in temperature is also expected in Bihar. Meteorologists have stated that the wind direction has shifted to south-easterly, leading to increased humidity, and this weather is likely to persist for the next two to three days.

Meteorological Department's Warning

IMD has advised people in all states to remain vigilant. The department has stated that fishermen in coastal areas should not venture into the sea for the next 48 hours. Furthermore, residents of low-lying areas in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha have been asked to move to safer locations.

How Long Will Cyclone Montha's Impact Last

According to IMD, the impact of Montha will be felt across various states for the next four to five days. The effect will be best in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha on Tuesday and Wednesday. After this, its influence will reach Jharkhand, Bihar, the northern parts of West Bengal, and eastern Uttar Pradesh.
