Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Launches 'Delhi Free from Garbage' Campaign, Plans New Secretariat

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Launches Month-Long 'Delhi Free from Garbage' Campaign. Expressed the Need for New Secretariat Building After Seeing the Condition of Current One.

Delhi: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday launched the Delhi government's special cleanliness campaign, 'Delhi Free from Garbage.' This month-long campaign aims to clean up the capital and improve the condition of government offices. The Chief Minister herself initiated the campaign by sweeping. She visited the Department of Women and Child Development office at Kashmiri Gate and expressed her displeasure at the disarray there.

Chief Minister Expresses Concern Seeing Dilapidated Condition of Office

The Chief Minister visited the departmental office for the first time and described the situation there as extremely poor. She said, "It is sad to see that our officers are working in this condition. The roof is leaking, the fans are about to fall, and the entire building is in a dilapidated state." She mentioned that the building had caught fire in 2021, but no repairs have been carried out since then.

CM Herself Sweeps, Removes E-Waste

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta not only visited but also participated in the cleaning work. She swept, removed old posters, discarded unusable files, and cleared e-waste. She directed the officers to actively participate in this campaign and cooperate in making the offices clean.

Announcement of New Secretariat

Seeing the condition of the office, the Chief Minister said that from today, they will begin the process of constructing a new secretariat. She stated that a location would be identified where all departments could be located in the same building. This will bring transparency and speed to the work. She said that Delhi needs a b and modern secretariat.

Targeting the Previous Government

On this occasion, Chief Minister Gupta also targeted the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. She said that the previous government spent crores of rupees on offices like Sheesh Mahal, but paid no attention to the working conditions of ordinary employees and officers. "For them, publicity was important, not the system," she said.

Need to Change Rules on Disposal of E-Waste and Scrap

The Chief Minister said that the e-waste and other unusable items accumulated in government offices not only occupy space but also hinder the cleaning work. She spoke of removing the complexities associated with the tender process and creating new rules to facilitate waste disposal.

Cleanliness Campaign Will Run in All Departments

The Chief Minister said that this campaign will not be limited to just one department. In the coming days, all government departments will have to clean their respective offices under this. The aim is not just cleanliness but to prepare government offices in a new form that promotes efficiency and a positive environment.

Campaign Will Involve Public Participation

The Chief Minister also said that this campaign will not be limited to the government level. The general public will also be involved in it. All citizens of Delhi will have to take the responsibility of keeping their surrounding areas clean. She said, "A clean Delhi is everyone's responsibility."
