Delhi Police Seizes 64,300 Banned Cigarettes, Arrests Two in Katra Hussain Raid

The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police raided the Farash Khana area of Katra Hussain and recovered 64,300 banned cigarettes. In this operation, Ovaish Siddiqui and Abdul Kalam were arrested, and a case was registered against them under the COTPA Act.

New Delhi News: The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police conducted a raid in the Katra Hussain, Farash Khana area on September 15 and recovered 64,300 banned cigarettes. In this operation, Ovaish Siddiqui (22) and Abdul Kalam (19) were arrested. The cigarettes were imported from abroad without warning labels on the packets and were found with the accused in Anas's warehouse.

Crucial Information Received from Farash Khana

Yesterday afternoon, the Anti-Extortion and Kidnapping Cell of the Crime Branch received information that a large quantity of banned cigarettes were being supplied from the Katra Hussain, Farash Khana area of Central Delhi. The information was immediately conveyed to senior officials, and a team was dispatched to the location for the raid.

Under the guidance of an informant, the team remained in the area. During that time, two individuals arrived on separate scooters, one of which had a large carton on it. The police took immediate action and stopped the scooter riders.

20,000 Cigarettes Recovered from Scooters

Upon searching the carton on the scooter, 20,000 banned cigarettes were recovered. During interrogation, the names of Ovaish Siddiqui and Abdul Kalam emerged, who were supplying these cigarettes for Anas.

After questioning the accused, the police took them to Anas's warehouse. This operation revealed that Anas resides in the Lajpat Nagar area and is the primary responsible person for this supply network.

Another 44,300 Cigarettes Found in Warehouse

During the operation, the police raided Anas's warehouse. An additional 44,300 banned cigarettes were recovered from there. In this action, Ovaish Siddiqui (22) and Abdul Kalam (19) were arrested. A case has been registered against them under the COTPA Act.

The police are now searching for Anas and are trying to ascertain who were the individuals purchasing cigarettes from this illegal supply.

No Government Warnings on Packets

The recovered cigarettes did not bear the warnings of the Government of India. These cigarettes were imported from foreign countries and were being supplied to the market in violation of the ban. The police considered this a serious offense and took immediate action.

Officials stated that this operation is a significant step towards curbing such illegal trade.
