Delhi University Student Union elections in 2025 have become heated due to NSUI's presidential candidate Joslin Nandita Chaudhary, whose previous name was Jitu Chaudhary. Her alleged religious conversion and name change have stirred political waters.
Jaipur: NSUI has announced Jodhpur student Joslin Nandita Chaudhary as its candidate for the presidential post in the Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) elections 2025. Along with her, Rahul Jhangla from Alwar, Rajasthan, has been given the ticket for the vice-presidential post. The presence of these two faces from Rajasthan is being considered a matter of pride for the state, but controversy has also erupted surrounding the presidential candidate, Joslin.
How did Jitu Chaudhary become Joslin Nandita?
According to sources, Joslin's old name was Jitu Chaudhary. Later, she changed her name to Joslin Nandita. Her schooling took place at DPS School in Jaipur, and her mother's name is recorded as Baby Devi on her 12th-grade mark sheet. It is rumored that this step was taken due to a name change and religious conversion. However, concrete evidence for this has not yet emerged. Only Joslin can answer the actual reasons and facts behind the religious conversion.
Her old name, 'Jitu Chaudhary', is still recorded in her educational documents. This is precisely why her name change and religious conversion are being intensely discussed in political circles and within the ABVP camp. Opposing factions are active on social media regarding this issue, and on several occasions, an aggressive stance has been adopted.
Questions Raised Over NSUI Presidential Ticket
Questions are also being raised in political corridors as to how Joslin, who suddenly became active, managed to secure the presidential ticket, when prominent student leaders like Umanshi Lamba and Gopal Chaudhary had been vying for the presidential post for a long time. This issue is also casting doubt on the election strategy and NSUI's decision.
NSUI believes that considering Joslin Nandita's image and activeness, she was considered a candidate who would perform well in the elections. However, opposing factions are calling it an improper process and the result of external interference.
Debate Intensifies Over Name and Religious Conversion
The debate over religious conversion and name change has intensified on social media. The opposing faction is raising this as a question of electoral norms and ethics. Meanwhile, the supporter faction states that changing one's name and religion is a personal right and should not be made an election issue.
Some ABVP-supporting student leaders have claimed that it is natural for questions to be raised about Joslin's electoral ticket due to the name change and religious conversion, but the final decision rests with the university administration and the voters.
