Djokovic Confirms Wimbledon Return, Dismisses Retirement Rumors

Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic has put an end to all retirement speculation, clarifying that his career is not over yet. Djokovic stated that he will be seen playing at Wimbledon at least one more time.

Novak Djokovic on Retirement: Dismissing retirement rumors following his loss in the Wimbledon 2025 semi-finals, Serbian tennis great Novak Djokovic has made it clear that he is not in the mood to stop. He said that he plans to play at Wimbledon at least one more time. In the semi-final match on Friday, he suffered a 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 defeat against Italy's Jannik Sinner.

This loss not only dashed Djokovic's hopes of winning his 25th Grand Slam title and equalling Roger Federer's Wimbledon title record, but also fueled speculation about his retirement.

Djokovic said - 'I will return'

In a press conference after the semi-final, when asked about retirement, 37-year-old Djokovic said in clear words: I am not planning to end my Wimbledon career today. I am definitely planning to come back at least one more time. This statement is nothing less than a relief for his fans. Djokovic also acknowledged that he has always considered Wimbledon a special tournament and his playing here will continue in the future.

Performance affected by injury

During the semi-final match, Djokovic did not appear to be in full form. He also admitted that his injury affected his performance. However, he refused to give detailed information about the injury. He said: I don't want to talk in detail about my injury. I would only like to talk about my performance. I am disappointed that I could not show the level that I expected of myself.

This season has been mixed for Djokovic. He has reached the semi-finals of all three Grand Slam tournaments so far – the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon – but could not play in any final.

Djokovic's Grand Slam performance in 2025

  • French Open: Lost in the semi-finals (to Sinner)
  • Wimbledon: Lost in the semi-finals (to Sinner)

This is the first time that Djokovic has reached three consecutive Grand Slam semi-finals without reaching the final.

Roger Federer has 8 titles at Wimbledon, while Djokovic has 7. This time, the hope was to equal Federer's record, which was broken by Jannik Sinner's brilliant victory. However, Djokovic has made it clear with his statement that he will return and continue trying to achieve this record.
