Mahendra Prasad, a contract manager at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) guest house, has been arrested on charges of spying for the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI. He is accused of sending confidential information related to DRDO and the Indian Army to Pakistan.
Accused Was Working in a Sensitive Area
The arrested accused, Mahendra Prasad, is a resident of Almora district in Uttarakhand. He was posted as a contract manager at the DRDO guest house located near the Chandan Field Firing Range in Jaisalmer. This area is considered strategically important for the testing of weapons and missiles. He had direct access to the activities of scientists and military officers visiting the site.
Contact Established with ISI via Social Media
The CID Intelligence investigation revealed that the accused came into contact with ISI agents through social media. He was sending information about the tests conducted at the firing range, the movement of officers, and details of meetings across the border. Security agencies have confirmed this after examining his mobile phone.
Action by CID Intelligence
Rajasthan CID Intelligence registered a case against the accused on August 12 under the Official Secrets Act, 1923, and arrested him. He is currently being interrogated to ascertain how long he has been sharing sensitive information and the extent of the information shared.
