Distraught by the disappearance of his 14-year-old daughter from Khindoda village in Baghpat district, father Ashok Sharma has begun a hunger strike. The entire community has rallied in support after a month passed with no sign of the girl.
Baghpat: A 14-year-old girl from Khindoda village, under the Singahvali Ahir police station area in Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh, has been missing for the past month. Distressed by the lack of progress in recovering his daughter, her father, Ashok Sharma, began a hunger strike on August 26, setting up a tent outside his house. Ashok says he will not end his fast until his daughter returns.
This case is no longer just a family's problem, but a matter of concern for the entire community. People from all sections of society, including Manoj Kumar Sharma, the district president of the Brahmin community, have come out in support of Ashok, accusing the police administration of negligence.
Missing Girl's Family Registered a Case at the Police Station
Ashok Sharma's daughter suddenly went missing from her home on July 26. Before leaving, she called her friend and said, "Tell my family that I will never return." Following this, the family registered a case at the Singahvali Ahir police station, but even after more than a month, the police have not been able to recover the girl.
After repeatedly pleading with officials and even going to the Janata Darbar in Lucknow, Ashok Sharma received no concrete help. Exhausted, he resorted to a hunger strike.
Community Demands Action from the Administration
Not only the family, but also members of the Brahmin community and the entire community have joined the hunger strike. Manoj Kumar Sharma said that this is not just a matter for one family, but a question of the honor and safety of the entire community. He warned the government and the police that if prompt action is not taken, this movement could escalate.
Previously, the victim's family had also staged a sit-in protest at the SP office and the Collectorate. Officials assured them of action, but no results were seen. The angered community announced a Mahapanchayat, which the police postponed with a promise of action within 15 days, under pressure.
Questions Raised on Police Investigation
The police say they are investigating the matter and working on several aspects. However, no concrete success has been achieved so far. Local people and community representatives are alleging that the police have put this case on the back burner.
People say that when the government gives the slogan of "Save the Girl Child, Educate the Girl Child," quick action should be taken in such cases. But here, the slow pace of the administration has frustrated and disappointed the victim's family.
A Father's Pain and the Community's Concern
Ashok Sharma says, "Only I know the pain of my daughter. If she is not found, I will remain on hunger strike until I die." This emotional appeal has shaken the entire area.
The community also believes that if the police do not become active in such cases, the public's trust in the system will be shaken.
