Google introduced 'Gemini in Classroom' at the ISTE conference, offering over 30 free AI tools. Teachers can now create lesson plans, quizzes, presentations, and track progress in a simplified manner. A new 'Gemini for Education' app was launched for students.
Google: In a significant move for the digital education era, Google has announced advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) based tools for teachers and students. At the annual edtech conference of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), Google unveiled an AI suite called ‘Gemini in Classroom,’ comprising more than 30 tools. Along with this, a custom AI app for students, ‘Gemini for Education,’ has also been launched.
This initiative by Google will not only simplify the work of teachers but also provide a new dimension to the learning abilities of students. The entire initiative falls under Google Workspace for Education and will be available free of charge.
Over 30 AI Tools for Teachers
According to Google’s announcement, teachers can now leverage more than 30 smart AI features through Gemini in Classroom. This includes AI-based lesson plan outlining, quiz generation, presentation designing, creating gamified activities, project idea brainstorming, and worksheet preparation.
Through these tools, teachers will not only save time but also be able to create more creative and interactive educational content for students.
NotebookLM and Gems Coming Soon to the Classroom
Google plans to add two more new AI features to the classroom in the coming months — NotebookLM and Gems. Through NotebookLM, teachers will be able to create study guides and audio summaries. Meanwhile, the Gems feature will enable AI experts to assist students who are weak in a subject or who need additional support.
New Version of Gemini App for Students
Google has also introduced a custom Gemini app for students, called 'Gemini for Education'. This app includes features like ‘Gemini Canvas,’ which gives students the option to create their own quizzes based on the subject matter.
Currently, this feature is available to students over 18 years of age, but Google has promised that it will soon be made available to minor students as well. This AI chatbot will have features like interactive diagrams and visual support, which will make it easier to understand complex subjects.
AI to Monitor Student Performance
Another key feature of Gemini in Classroom includes ‘Progress Tracking’. Through this feature, teachers will be able to analyze the progress of students. Initially, this feature will be based on the K-12 level in the United States, but in the future, educational standards of other countries will also be incorporated.
Google Focuses on Security and Transparency
A common concern regarding AI tools is the potential misuse of private information of students and teachers. On this, Google has clarified that it has formulated a data policy based on the advice of child safety and education experts.
Under this, Google will not use chat data for AI training through these tools. Also, supervisory and control tools will be available for parents and teachers so that the privacy of students is maintained.
Google Vids Will Also Be Accessible
Google also stated that teachers and students will now have the facility to use Google Vids. This will enable them to easily create video-based content, which will make learning more engaging.
