Gorakhpur. Due to the negligence of the electricity department, the Diwali preparations of approximately 5,000 families in the district came to a halt. The shutdown of the Lohia sub-station started later than the scheduled time, which led to delays in both the power outage and the restoration of supply.

The Electricity Secondary Works Division stated that it was decided to shut down the Lohia sub-station on Monday at 12 PM for road widening and line shifting. It was agreed that power would be restored by 4 PM. However, due to a lack of coordination among subordinate engineers, the electricity supply could not be restored until approximately 7:15 PM.

Consumers reported that when the power was not restored by 4 PM, they contacted the department but received no response. Even their inverters were unable to provide power.

Executive Engineer Ankit Kumar of the Town Hall division stated that the problem occurred due to the delay. Meanwhile, Executive Engineer Sujit Gupta of the Electricity Secondary Works Division said that the work could not be completed on time due to the negligence of the Public Works Department contractor, and a notice would be issued to them for this.

The power supply line from Mohaddipur sub-station to Lohia sub-station was to be cut/shifted. During this period, the Palm Paradise sub-station remained shut down for an hour.

Additionally, a lineman fell from a pole. There was a delay in the department in getting him to the hospital, which was also considered a major hindrance in restoring the supply.
