Ayodhya is set to witness an even grander Deepotsav this year, as 1.5 million lamps (diyas) made from Chunar soil will illuminate the streets and ghats of the sacred city of Ram. This event will not only amplify the joy of Diwali but also symbolize indigenous craftsmanship and women's empowerment.
At the Patari Terracotta Cluster Diya Ghar, located in Samaspur village of Chunar, the fervor for Diwali is at its peak these days. Here, 38 women artisans are crafting attractive clay lamps using traditional pottery wheels and modern techniques. These lamps embody the Chunar terracotta art and the diligent labor of women's strength.
Under the guidance of Navchetna FPO and Guiding Souls Trust, traditional clay lamps along with colorful decorative lamps are being produced on a large scale. Last year, 850,000 lamps were sent from here to Ayodhya, while this year the number is almost double. So far, a consignment of about 1 million lamps has already reached Avadhpuri from Chunar.
Deepotsav 2025: A New World Record
This year, during Deepotsav in Ayodhya, the goal is to adorn the banks of the Saryu River with 2.8 million lamps, aiming to establish a new world record. For the first time, Laxman Kila Ghat has also been included in this grand celebration. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath himself will lead this magnificent event by lighting the lamps, and the entire atmosphere will become devotional with the chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram’.
In this Deepotsav, more than 2.6 million lamps will be lit at Ram Ki Paidi and other ghats, showcasing Ayodhya's faith and culture on a global stage. Additionally, the Ram Temple Trust will distribute Prasad (sacred offerings) to devotees and staff.
Ayodhya's Deepotsav is not merely a religious festival but has evolved into a symbol of Indian culture, spirituality, and indigenous skill. This event marks a significant step towards establishing Ayodhya as a "world cultural capital."
By participating in this Deepotsav, you too can become a witness to this historic moment and appreciate indigenous craftsmanship.
