Voter turnout in the single-phase Assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry recorded high participation, reflecting b public engagement in the electoral process.
According to the Election Commission, turnout figures available until 9:30 pm showed Puducherry registering the highest voting percentage at 89.87 per cent. Assam recorded a turnout of 85.65 per cent, while Kerala reported 78.24 per cent.
Polling in all three regions was conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner, with a large number of voters exercising their franchise. The counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.
In Puducherry, a total of 89.87 per cent voting was recorded across 30 Assembly constituencies. The electorate comprised 10,14,070 registered voters, including 5,39,125 women, 4,74,788 men, and 157 third gender voters. Additionally, 24,156 voters in the 18–19 age group participated in the electoral process for the first time.
The electoral contest in Puducherry involves a three-cornered competition among the ruling alliance, the Congress-DMK alliance, and regional parties.
In Assam, voter turnout stood at 85.65 per cent. A total of 2,50,54,463 voters were eligible to vote across 126 Assembly constituencies, including male, female, and third gender voters. The election features 722 candidates, with contests across multiple constituencies.
The principal contest in Assam is between the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Congress-led opposition alliance. During the campaign period, both sides engaged in political exchanges.
Kerala recorded a voter turnout of 78.24 per cent, which is higher compared to previous elections. The state has 883 candidates contesting across 140 Assembly constituencies. More than 2.69 crore voters were registered, including over 1.38 crore women voters and 1.31 crore men voters. A total of 277 third gender voters also participated in the process.
The contest in Kerala is primarily among the Left Democratic Front (LDF), the United Democratic Front (UDF), and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Polling across several regions was conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner.
