Chennai was gripped by panic after TVK chief Vijay's house received a bomb threat via email. The bomb disposal squad conducted a search, but no explosives were found. Police are investigating the matter, and security has been heightened.
Tamil Nadu: A bomb threat at TVK chief Vijay's house in Neelankarai, Chennai, caused a stir. Early in the morning, Vijay received a threatening email warning that a bomb had been placed at his Neelankarai residence. Following this news, the police and Bomb Disposal Squad immediately rushed to the scene and conducted a thorough search of the house. No explosive material was found during the search, confirming that the email was a hoax, but the investigation was completed as a security measure.
Source of Threat and Investigation Process
The email received by actor-politician Vijay on Thursday morning clearly stated that a bomb had been placed at his house. Upon receiving the information, the police immediately called the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDDS) as a security measure. The BDDS began its search at 3 AM, starting from the exterior of the house and eventually entering to inspect the entire premises. Despite the intensive search, no explosives or suspicious items were found. After the search was completed, the police and BDDS teams returned to their respective stations at 7:25 AM.
Police Response
A constable present at the scene stated that an investigation was immediately launched upon receiving the information. He added that such threats heighten the sense of security in the city, and therefore, all steps were taken to ensure vigilance and safety. The police also stated that the security system would remain active to deal with any potential incidents of this nature in the future.
Previous Threats
Prior to this incident, several prominent personalities in Chennai have received bomb threats via email. Last month, actor-politician S.V. Sekhar received a similar email. The content of the emails was almost identical. Police have not yet identified the sender but are taking the matter seriously, and the investigation team is actively probing the case.
Hoax and Threats to Media Institutions
On October 6, a prominent national daily in Chennai also received a bomb threat email. That email claimed that three RDX IEDs had been placed on their premises. Following a thorough and intensive search, the BDDS declared it a hoax.
