IIT Bombay Student Commits Suicide, Investigation Underway

A heartbreaking incident occurred late Thursday night at IIT Bombay. Rohit Sinha, a 26-year-old student in his fourth year in the Department of Meta Science at the institute, committed suicide by jumping from the hostel roof. The incident took place around 2:30 AM on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday at the Powai campus, plunging the entire campus into mourning.

Rohit was originally from Delhi and had been studying at IIT Bombay for the past four years. It is reported that another student present on the hostel roof at the time of the incident saw Rohit jump and immediately raised an alarm. Subsequently, with the help of students and staff, Rohit was taken to Hiranandani Hospital, but doctors declared him dead.

No Suicide Note Found

Upon receiving information about the incident, the Powai police arrived at the scene. The police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and have initiated an investigation into the matter. So far, no suicide note has been confirmed to have been found. Police are questioning students and family members to ascertain why Rohit took this step.

The police have sent Rohit's body for post-mortem examination and have also seized his mobile phone and other digital devices to begin the investigation. According to officials, this suicide may have been caused by academic pressure, personal problems, or some mental stress, but the actual cause will only be revealed after investigation.

Counseling Arrangements for Students

A wave of grief has swept through the IIT Bombay campus following this tragic incident. Students, teachers, and staff are all in deep shock. While there has been no official statement from the institute, the administration has stated that mental health support and counseling facilities will be provided to students.

Experts believe that students in higher education institutions should be provided with continuous mental support, counseling, and stress management facilities to prevent such incidents from happening again.

This accident once again raises serious questions about the mental state of students in the country's top educational institutions.
