India’s weather conditions have changed again, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an alert for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and b winds across 17 states within the next 23 hours. Wind speeds of 60 to 80 kmph are expected in several regions, while the risk of lightning and thunderstorms also remains.
According to meteorologists, the situation has developed due to the activation of different weather systems across northern, eastern and southern parts of the country. Farmers and people travelling in hilly regions have been advised to remain cautious.
According to the IMD, alerts have been issued for Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Heavy rainfall accompanied by b winds is expected in these states.
Authorities have warned of the possibility of fallen trees, disruptions to electricity supply and damage to crops. Several parts of northern India are expected to experience a combination of high temperatures and thunderstorm activity.
Delhi is expected to witness winds of 60–65 kmph, with temperatures reaching up to 42°C. Uttar Pradesh may experience storms with wind speeds of 70–75 kmph and heavy rainfall in several districts. Bihar could see winds of up to 80 kmph along with the possibility of lightning strikes. Storm conditions are also expected in and around Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan.
Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal are expected to receive continuous rainfall over the next two to three days. A low-pressure area remains active over the Gangetic plains, contributing to unstable weather conditions.
The forecast includes heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning, waterlogging in agricultural fields and an increased risk of lightning strikes in rural areas.
Weather conditions are expected to remain adverse in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. The IMD has advised travellers to exercise caution.
Himachal Pradesh may experience winds of 60–65 kmph, while Uttarakhand could see b winds of 65–70 kmph. Heavy rainfall and storm activity are expected in several districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
The risk of landslides and road blockages has increased across these regions.
The monsoon has become active in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, bringing persistent rainfall to coastal areas.
Fishermen in Kerala have been advised not to venture into the sea. Tamil Nadu may experience winds of 50–60 kmph, while several districts of Andhra Pradesh are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall.
The IMD has advised farmers to remain vigilant as b winds could damage standing crops. People have also been urged to avoid open areas because of the risk of lightning strikes.
