Opposition Leaders Express Disapproval of India-Pakistan Match. Several leaders, including Owaisi, Imran Masood, and Priyanka Chaturvedi, have deemed playing Pakistan insensitive after Operation Sindoor.
Asia Cup 2025: The politics of the country have once again heated up regarding the cricket match scheduled between India and Pakistan on September 14, as part of the Asia Cup 2025. The echo of Operation 'Sindoor' had barely reached from the Parliament to the hearts of the people when the potential clash between India and Pakistan on the cricket field ignited sharp reactions in political circles. While India, on one hand, made the world aware of its military might by giving a befitting reply to Pakistan under Operation Sindoor, on the other hand, the opposition parties have attacked the government with the question of why a game of harmony like cricket is being continued when a retaliatory action has already been taken against the enemy country?
Owaisi's Protest: 'My conscience cannot watch cricket'
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief and MP Asaduddin Owaisi bly protested against this match. Owaisi said in the Lok Sabha, "Our 26 soldiers were martyred in the Pahalgam attack, and you want to play cricket with Pakistan? The Prime Minister says 'blood and water cannot flow together,' then why cricket?"
He further said, "My conscience does not allow me to watch this match. It is an insult to the sacrifice of the martyrs. Pakistan has received its answer, but now accountability must be fixed."
Imran Masood: 'Our sisters' sindoor is wiped away, and you are preparing for the game?'
Congress MP Imran Masood also rejected any kind of sports event with Pakistan, saying, "During Operation Sindoor, our brave soldiers taught Pakistan a lesson. Our sisters' sindoor is wiped away, and you are allowing a cricket match with Pakistan? This is sheer insensitivity."
Samajwadi Party's Opinion: 'Every type of relationship with Pakistan should end'
Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad said in Parliament, "India should not have any kind of relationship with Pakistan at any level, whether it is sports, trade, or diplomacy. Until Pakistan stops supporting terrorism, there should be no compromise."
Deepender Hooda's Taunt
Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda from Haryana added a new angle, saying, "When you are talking about taking revenge on Pakistan, then why cricket? Either you silence Donald Trump or close McDonald's in India. These two cannot go together. War on one hand and cricket on the other—this is double standards."
Priyanka Chaturvedi Attacks BCCI
Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi directly questioned the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). She said, "There can be no compromise on the question of the country's security. How can the BCCI allow a match with Pakistan? The entire country will oppose this match, and it is the moral responsibility of the government to put pressure on the BCCI."
Arvind Sawant: 'When there is no relationship, then why cricket?'
Another Shiv Sena MP, Arvind Sawant, also intensified the opposition, saying, "We showed Pakistan its place in Operation Sindoor. We have ended diplomatic and trade relations. So why are cricket relations still remaining? This is a dual policy, which is playing with the sentiments of the country."
Will the government change its stance?
Amid all these sharp reactions, the question now arises whether the government and the BCCI will reconsider this match? According to sources, the central government is currently avoiding giving any clear statement on this issue. However, considering public sentiment and political pressure, a major decision may be taken in the coming days.
