India Squad for Asia Cup 2025: 8 Players Confirmed, 7 Still Under Consideration

Only a few days remain before the announcement of the Indian team for the Asia Cup 2025. Meanwhile, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar, Head Coach Gautam Gambhir, and Captain Suryakumar Yadav are in discussions regarding the selection of players.

Sports News: The announcement of Team India for the Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled for August 19th, but even before that, there is a lot of discussion and deliberation among the selectors regarding the final squad. Team India's Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar, Head Coach Gautam Gambhir, and Captain Suryakumar Yadav are currently engaged in making the final decision on the players' names.

Along with the Asia Cup, the selection of the team is also taking into consideration the Test series against the West Indies in October. This is why some players have been confirmed, while decisions on several names are still pending.

Team India: 8 Players Confirmed

The selection of 8 players in the Team India squad is currently considered almost certain. The list of these players is as follows:

  1. Suryakumar Yadav (Captain) – Team India's T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav is fit for the Asia Cup and has fully recovered after sports hernia surgery.
  2. Hardik Pandya – All-rounder Hardik Pandya's return to the team is certain.
  3. Abhishek Sharma – The young batsman has been included in the team.
  4. Tilak Varma – Tilak Varma's selection in the team is confirmed due to his contribution in batting and fast bowling.
  5. Axar Patel – Axar Patel will be a part of the team as a spin all-rounder.
  6. Varun Chakravarthy – Leg spinner Varun Chakravarthy's role is considered important.
  7. Kuldeep Yadav – Experienced spinner Kuldeep Yadav has been included in the team again.
  8. Arshdeep Singh – Fast bowler Arshdeep Singh's place in the team is secure.

7 Names in the Balance

In addition, there are 7 players regarding whose selection the selectors are still deliberating. The prominent names include: Sanju Samson, Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube, Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Siraj, and Shubman Gill.

  • Sanju Samson: Sanju Samson was the highest run-scorer for India in T20 Internationals in 2024. He scored 436 runs in 13 matches. However, his performance in the T20 series against England under Suryakumar Yadav's captaincy was average, due to which his selection is not yet certain.
  • Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj: Shubman Gill recently drew 2-2 Test series for Team India as captain. India is scheduled to play a Test series against the West Indies immediately after the Asia Cup, so Gill may be rested. Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj played five consecutive matches against England and bowled 185.3 overs, so the selectors are considering his selection and playing in the Test series.
  • Jasprit Bumrah: The selection of the team's key fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, is uncertain due to fitness concerns. The selectors want to see his full fitness report first, before making a final decision on including him in the Asia Cup.
  • Shreyas Iyer: Shreyas Iyer, who strengthens the middle order, is currently playing the Duleep Trophy. The selectors are still considering his selection in the Asia Cup.
  • Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh: T20 finishers Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh are both known for explosive shots in the final overs. The selectors are considering giving a place in the team to both these players based on their performance and the needs of the match.
