A team from Kanpur's drug department raided some medical stores located in Anwarganj and seized approximately 2,000 bottles of cough syrup and about 9,000 sleeping pills. These medicines were kept without valid bills.

All seized medicines have been sealed, and samples have been sent for testing.

Background to the Action

On Sunday, information was received regarding suspicious activity involving intoxicating drugs at Balaji Ji Medical Store in Anwarganj. That day, the medical store was sealed, and its operator was interrogated. On Monday, a team comprising Drug Inspectors O.P. Singh, Ajay Kumar Santoshi, and Parmesh Dwivedi conducted a detailed investigation at those stores.

The investigating team found that a large quantity of medicines was stored in the shops, for which bills could not be produced.

The operator stated that the medicines were procured from Lucknow.

Further Procedure

From the seized medicines, samples of three cough syrup bottles and one sleeping pill have been taken, which will be sent to the state laboratory located in Varanasi.

The entire store has been sealed, and further legal action has commenced.

This action is being viewed as part of a large-scale drug campaign. Following the recent recovery of counterfeit drugs in Ludhiana, such raids and inspections have been intensified.
