Kharge Launches Sharp Attack on Modi, Citing Threats to Democracy

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the central government, labeling them as the biggest threat to democracy and the Constitution.

Kharge Attacks Modi: Political tensions are rising once again, with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge directly criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the current government. He stated unequivocally that the current administration has become the foremost danger to democracy, the Constitution, and freedom of expression. He even asserted that elections are now being won by machines, not by individuals, and that India is currently in an undeclared emergency.

“We are the Protectors, Not the Burners”

During a press conference in Delhi, Kharge stated that the government is diverting public attention from crucial issues by repeatedly invoking the term “emergency.” He sarcastically remarked that Prime Minister Modi and his party are the same individuals who “burned the Constitution at Ramlila Maidan and are now claiming to save it.”

Kharge emphasized that it is the Congress party and the people of India who are responsible for safeguarding the Constitution, not those who seek to alter it, referencing the work of Babasaheb Ambedkar.

Allegations of Voter List Manipulation: How Did Maharashtra’s Voter Count Increase by 8%?

Kharge raised serious questions about the impartiality of the Election Commission. He argued that while the Election Commission is traditionally considered the guardian of democracy, it has now become a puppet. He questioned how Maharashtra’s voter count increased by 8% in just a few months – is this a standard procedure or a deliberately orchestrated strategy? Kharge alleges that there are also significant concerns regarding the transparency of EVMs, which the BJP is exploiting politically.

Kharge stressed that the current environment in India has been created where criticizing the government is equated to treason. He stated that students are being imprisoned, journalists are being intimidated, and freedom of expression is being consistently suppressed. He questioned, “If this is not an emergency, then what is it?”

Remarks on Foreign Policy: Trump Claims India is Being Intimidated – Modi Remains Silent

Kharge also questioned Modi’s silence on the matter. Referencing a past statement by former US President Donald Trump, he stated that Trump had repeatedly offered to mediate between India and Pakistan, but the Indian government never responded. When leaders like Trump intimidate India, Prime Minister Modi remains silent. “Then how can you claim to be a global leader?”

Government’s Silence on Manipur and Kashmir

Kharge also squarely criticized the central government regarding the violence in Manipur and the terrorist attack in Pulwama. He stated that instead of answering questions in Parliament about these issues, the Prime Minister is preoccupied with election campaigns. “Are the people of Manipur not citizens of this country? Why the silence regarding their suffering?” In his address, Kharge referenced the Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodi Yatra and the Constitution Saving Yatra, noting that they have inspired enthusiasm among the youth.

He asserted that the government is fearful of this enthusiasm and is attempting to divert public attention from genuine issues by exploiting themes of emergency, nationalism, and the debate between temples and mosques. The government, which is currently widening the gap between the rich and the poor, is now invoking the doctrine of the Constitution.
