Emergency call boxes have been reactivated at the city's major intersections. Now, in any emergency, pressing a button will immediately bring police assistance, eliminating the hassle of making a phone call.
Lucknow: Citizens in the capital city can now receive immediate police assistance in any emergency at major intersections. The emergency call boxes that have been installed in the city for years have been reactivated. Now, citizens can send a notification to the police simply by pressing a button, and the police will reach the spot immediately. This facility has been made available at ten prominent intersections in the city.
Immediate Help Via Call Box in Road Incidents
The police stated that if someone experiences a criminal incident on the road or faces any distress, they can press the button on the emergency call box. As soon as the button is pressed, the information will directly reach the ITMS (Integrated Traffic Management System).
Officers present in the ITMS will immediately identify the intersection and inform the police control room. Following this, police and traffic personnel deployed at the scene will promptly reach out to assist the victim. The police department says that this system will be active 24 hours a day and will help minimize response times under the quick response initiative.
All Call Boxes in the City Will Now Be Active
Emergency call boxes were installed at several intersections in the city between 2021 and 2023. However, they remained inactive for years due to technical issues. DCP Crime Branch Kamlesh Dixit informed that after rectifying the technical faults, all ten call boxes are now being fully activated.
He added that these boxes will be monitored online from the ITMS office. This will allow officers to keep a record of every call and ensure immediate action. If this initiative proves successful, it will be expanded to other intersections in the city.
Information for the Public on Using Call Boxes
DCP Kamlesh Dixit also mentioned that people were previously unable to use these call boxes due to a lack of awareness. Therefore, boards will now be installed at each call box, clearly stating the benefits and usage of the emergency call box.
The police also stated that through publicity and awareness campaigns, citizens will be educated about this facility. The objective is to ensure that people can use the call boxes for assistance in emergencies at any time without hesitation.
Security to be Increased to Prevent Misuse of Call Boxes
The police have also warned that the call boxes may be misused. Some individuals might press the button merely to test police responsiveness. In such cases, the police have decided to take strict action.
All call boxes will be under surveillance by CCTV cameras and the ITMS room. Through footage, any abuser will be identified and legal action will be taken against them. The police department states that this system will not only assist in emergencies but also strengthen security and traffic control in the city.
