Madhya Pradesh Floods: 252 Dead, Thousands Displaced Amidst Heavy Rains

Heavy rains and floods in Madhya Pradesh have claimed 252 lives so far. Hundreds of animals have died, and houses have been damaged. Thousands of people have taken refuge in relief camps.

MP News: This year's monsoon has brought immense devastation to Madhya Pradesh. The relentless rainfall over the past 40 days has disrupted life in many parts of the state. According to government figures, 252 people have died so far. These deaths include 47 from heavy rains, 132 from drowning in rivers and streams, 60 from lightning strikes, and 13 from collapsing walls, houses, or trees.

Livestock Loss and Rescue Operations

The rains have not only claimed human lives but have also resulted in the deaths of 432 livestock and 1200 chickens. NDRF and SDRF teams involved in rescue operations have conducted 432 rescue operations so far. These operations have safely rescued 3628 citizens and 94 livestock. This work has been carried out particularly in sensitive areas like Bhopal, Gwalior, Jabalpur, and Dhar.

People Taking Shelter in Relief Camps

Currently, 53 relief camps are operating across the state, sheltering 3065 people. These camps are providing food, water, medicines, clothing, and other essential facilities. The government is making efforts to ensure that no affected citizen faces any kind of difficulty.

Damage to Houses

According to the government report, 128 houses have been completely damaged, while 2333 houses have been partially damaged. Surveys are being conducted to provide assistance to the owners of these houses to compensate for the losses.

Distribution of Relief Funds Ongoing

In a video conference with district collectors chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, it was reported that ₹28.49 crore has been distributed as relief funds so far. In addition, the government has allocated ₹3600 crore for relief and rehabilitation. The Chief Minister has directed that the survey work be expedited to provide assistance to every affected person as soon as possible.

Damage to Rural Roads Due to Excessive Rainfall

According to current data, 711.3 mm of rainfall has been recorded in the state so far, which is 59 percent more than normal. This has resulted in above-normal rainfall in 40 districts. Due to this heavy rainfall, 254 rural roads have been damaged, disrupting transportation.

The state government has taken active steps in view of the seriousness of the situation. The Chief Minister has made it clear that no negligence will be tolerated in relief efforts. All officers and employees involved in rescue operations are continuously monitoring the situation by remaining in the field.
