Mumbai: Manoj Jarange Patil's fast for Maratha reservation continues for the fifth day. Mumbai Police issues notice to vacate the protest site as per High Court's directive. Jarange announces he will not move until reservation is granted.
Mumbai: The ongoing hunger strike in Mumbai's Azad Maidan for Maratha reservation has reached a new turning point. The Mumbai Police has issued a notice to Maratha agitation leader Manoj Jarange Patil, ordering him to vacate the ground immediately. This action by the police, following the High Court's directive, has become a subject of discussion.
High Court's Strictness on the Agitation
The Bombay High Court had clearly stated on Monday that the situation on Mumbai's roads was deteriorating due to the agitation and that the protest was violating previously given conditions. The court had directed Jarange's supporters to vacate all roads by Tuesday afternoon. The court observed that the agitation was no longer peaceful and was causing increased inconvenience to the general public.
What did the Police state?
According to the notice issued by the Mumbai Police, permission for the hunger strike was granted with certain conditions, but these conditions have been violated. For this reason, the police have asked Manoj Jarange Patil to vacate Azad Maidan immediately.
Jarange's Clear Message: Will not move without reservation
Manoj Jarange Patil has made it clear that he will not leave the ground until the Maratha community is granted reservation within the OBC (Other Backward Class) quota. He states that this agitation is solely for the right to reservation and will not be called off until the demand is met.
Hunger Strike Continues for Five Days
Jarange Patil's hunger strike continues for the fifth consecutive day. Protests have been ongoing in Maharashtra for a long time regarding Maratha reservation. However, this time, the High Court's strictness and the Mumbai Police's action have brought the agitation to a new juncture.
