Amidst the rise in online scams and fraud, Meta has launched new anti-scam and security features across WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger. These features include AI-powered scam detection, Passkey support, and video call alerts. Special security measures for senior citizens and an awareness campaign in collaboration with the government will also be implemented.
Meta Anti-Scam Features: In response to the increasing online scams and fraud, Meta has introduced new anti-scam features across WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger in India. The company has taken this initiative specifically with senior citizens in mind. Now, chatting and digital transactions will be more secure than before through unknown caller alerts during video calls, AI-powered chat reviews, and Passkey support. Furthermore, Meta is also running the 'Scam Se Bacho' (Beware of Scams) campaign in collaboration with the Department of Telecommunications.
New Security Feature in WhatsApp
On WhatsApp, users will now receive an alert when sharing their screen during a video call with an unknown caller. Scammers frequently exploit video calls in cases of digital arrest and other frauds, making this feature instrumental in enhancing security. Additionally, an AI-powered scam detection tool has been introduced for Messenger chats. Users can submit new chats for AI review, and if a potential threat is identified, they will receive guidance.
Passkey Support for All Platforms
Meta has also rolled out Passkey support across all its platforms. This allows users to sign in using device-level authentication such as face verification or fingerprint. Alongside this, the company has urged users to conduct Security Checkups on Facebook and Instagram, and Privacy Checkups on WhatsApp.

Scam Awareness Campaign with Government
Meta has launched the 'Scam Se Bacho' (Beware of Scams) campaign in collaboration with the Department of Telecommunications. Under this initiative, senior citizens will be educated on identifying scams and methods to avoid them through video content and digital safety sessions. Furthermore, programs promoting digital literacy and security will also be supported via the 'Saksham Senior' (Capable Senior) campaign.
