A horrific road accident occurred near Chinnatekur in Hyderabad district around 4 AM on Friday morning when a private bus heading towards Hyderabad collided with a two-wheeler. The bus caught fire after the collision, resulting in the tragic death of 12 people.
Kurnool: A tragic road accident plunged several families into mourning in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh early Friday morning. At least 12 people died and several others were injured when a private travel company's bus caught fire on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru National Highway. The accident occurred near Chinna Tekuru village in Kurnool district.
How Did the Accident Happen?
According to the police, the horrific accident occurred around 4 AM on Friday morning when a Kaveri Travels bus, heading towards Hyderabad, collided with a motorcycle crossing the road. The impact was so severe that the bike got trapped under the bus, and its fuel cap opened. A spark ignited the bus, and the entire vehicle was engulfed in flames within moments.
Kurnool Range DIG Koya Praveen stated that approximately 40 passengers were on board the bus. Around 19 of them, including two children and two drivers, managed to save their lives. The remaining passengers were trapped inside the bus as its door jammed due to a short circuit after the fire broke out.

Bus Reduced to Ashes Within Minutes
According to eyewitnesses, the bus was completely gutted within minutes of the accident. Local residents and fire department teams jointly brought the fire under control, but by then, most of the bus had been consumed by flames. Police stated that most of the deceased were between 25 and 35 years of age. The motorcyclist also died on the spot. Currently, the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination to Kurnool Government Hospital.
Police and fire brigade teams that reached the spot launched a rescue operation. Seriously injured individuals with burns have been admitted to a nearby hospital. Traffic on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru National Highway was disrupted for several hours due to the accident. Police reported that preliminary investigation suggests the accident occurred due to negligence and overspeeding. A special investigation team has been formed to ascertain the exact causes of the accident.
CM and President Express Condolences
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep sorrow over the tragic accident. He wrote on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), "I am deeply distressed by the news of the bus fire accident near Chinna Tekuru village in Kurnool district. My heartfelt condolences go out to the families who have lost their loved ones. The state government will provide all possible assistance to the injured and affected families."
President Droupadi Murmu also expressed condolences on the incident. She stated, "The tragic incident of the bus fire in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, is extremely unfortunate. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured."
