Police Action So Far
In the case, the police have already arrested the mother-in-law of the deceased, Nikki Bhati. At the same time, her husband, Vipin Bhati, was caught by the police during an encounter. Vipin sustained a leg injury during the encounter, after which he was admitted to the hospital. After initial treatment, the court has sent him to 14 days of judicial custody.
According to the police, Nikki's death was caused by fire, and in this incident, her husband Vipin is accused of burning his wife to death. Investigators say that Vipin often used to beat Nikki, and this case may be related to a long-standing domestic dispute and demand for dowry.
Statement of the Accused Husband
Meanwhile, Vipin Bhati, admitted to the hospital, has completely denied all the allegations against him. He claimed that he did not cause his wife's death, but that she herself was caught in the fire. On the allegations of assault, Vipin says that "it is common for husband and wife to quarrel" and that it does not fall into the category of a serious crime. However, the police are not ready to accept his statement and are now proceeding with the case based on evidence and witnesses.
The National Commission for Women has clearly stated that the possibility of pressure being put on witnesses or intimidation of the family cannot be ruled out in this case. Therefore, security should be provided to the victim's family and witnesses. The Commission has also said that only a quick and transparent investigation of the matter can ensure justice.
