In the midst of this, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, stated at an event that a paid campaign was run on social media to politically target him. He clarified that there is no factual basis to this campaign and it was solely conducted against him for political reasons.

In recent times, E20 blended petrol has faced criticism. Vehicle owners and some experts claim that the 20 percent ethanol blend reduces vehicle fuel efficiency and negatively impacts the engine. The government, on the other hand, describes it as a significant step towards reducing pollution and cutting import costs. Several trends have gone viral on social media, raising questions and criticizing the government over this issue.
Gadkari Says – This Campaign is Political and Baseless
When Nitin Gadkari was questioned about E20 petrol at the annual conference of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, he said that the automotive industry and research institutions have conducted studies on ethanol blending and submitted their reports. However, he added, politics works in the same way the industry does. A paid campaign was run against me, which was entirely political. There is no truth in it; everything is clear.
Gadkari further stated that E20 petrol is an alternative to imports, is cost-effective, pollution-free, and a homegrown solution. He described this initiative as beneficial for the country's economy, noting that India spends heavily on importing fossil fuels, and this move can reduce dependence on imports.
Benefits for Farmers, Strengthening the Economy
Nitin Gadkari explained that India has worked towards producing ethanol from maize, which has benefited farmers by approximately ₹45,000 crore. He said that the amount saved from reducing fossil fuel imports can be used to strengthen the Indian economy. Speaking on the issue of pollution at the event, Gadkari said that efforts are being made globally to reduce pollution.
Citing a report, he mentioned that if the current level of pollution persists, the life expectancy of residents in cities like Delhi could decrease by up to 10 years. Presenting E20 petrol as an effective measure to reduce pollution, he described it as a significant step towards environmental protection.
