Commercial flight operations officially commenced at Noida International Airport on Monday. The airport’s first scheduled passenger flight landed on the new runway at 8:05 a.m., carrying passengers from Lucknow.
The first scheduled commercial flight to arrive at Noida International Airport in Jewar was IndiGo flight 6E-2278 from Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow. After landing, the same aircraft departed for Bengaluru with passengers on board. Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu formally inaugurated commercial operations at the airport during a programme held in Jewar.
The foundation stone of Noida International Airport was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 25, 2021. The airport was inaugurated on March 28. Since its inauguration, passengers and industry stakeholders had been awaiting the start of regular flight operations, which has now begun. The airport has been developed as a strategic transportation hub for Uttar Pradesh and the Delhi-NCR region. The government believes it will enhance regional connectivity and support trade, tourism and investment.
Noida International Airport has been developed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model with an investment of approximately Rs 11,200 crore. Swiss company Zurich International Airport AG has been entrusted with its development and operation. Construction in the first phase has been completed across 1,334 hectares. Equipped with modern technology, smart infrastructure and environmentally friendly facilities, the airport is expected to be among India’s most modern aviation hubs.
In the initial phase, around 65 commercial flights will operate from Noida International Airport to nearly 45 cities across the country. The services are expected to benefit millions of passengers in western Uttar Pradesh, Delhi-NCR and surrounding regions. According to experts, the new airport will also help reduce increasing passenger pressure on Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. The network of international flights from the airport is planned to be expanded in the future.
Noida International Airport is expected to serve not only as a transportation project but also as a centre for regional economic activity. Airport operations are expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities. New investment opportunities are also expected in logistics, hospitality, tourism, warehousing and industrial sectors.
Industrial and commercial corridors being developed around the airport are expected to strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s position on national and global investment maps.
The development of Noida International Airport will be carried out in four phases. Upon completion of all phases, plans envisage its inclusion among Asia’s largest airports and the world’s major aviation hubs. Expansion is being designed to meet future demand for passenger traffic and cargo services.
The commencement of commercial flight operations at Noida International Airport is being regarded as a milestone in India’s rapidly expanding aviation infrastructure. The project is expected to strengthen connectivity in Uttar Pradesh and support India’s position within global aviation and logistics networks.
