Tension persisted between Pakistan and Afghanistan following violent clashes between the two countries this month. However, hopes for improvement have emerged after peace talks held in Istanbul, Turkey.

World News: A new hope for peace has finally emerged amidst the long-standing border tensions and military clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Following historic talks held in Istanbul, mediated by Turkey and Qatar, both countries have agreed to a ceasefire. This decision comes after severe violence and air strikes on the borders of both nations exacerbated the situation in recent weeks.

Decisive Talks Held in Turkey Amidst Tensions

Senior representatives from both Pakistan and Afghanistan were present at this much-anticipated peace talk held in Istanbul, Turkey, between October 25 and 30. Turkey and Qatar played a mediating role in this meeting. The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an official statement saying that both sides have agreed to a ceasefire and to establish a Monitoring & Verification Mechanism that will take immediate action in the event of a ceasefire violation.

This agreement is not only important for regional peace but is also considered a decisive step towards stability in South and Central Asia. According to a Reuters report, several deadly clashes occurred on the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan in September and October 2025. This was considered one of the most serious confrontations between the two countries since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan in 2021.

Pakistan had carried out airstrikes within the Afghan border. Afghan forces retaliated with shelling. Both countries closed their main border crossings, stranding thousands of trucks with goods and refugees. However, peace has prevailed in the border areas for the past few days, and no new clashes have been reported.

Monitoring Mechanism and Provision for Punishment

Turkey stated that both countries have not only agreed to a ceasefire but have also determined that any violation of the ceasefire will result in punishment for the responsible party. An independent inspection committee will be formed to monitor the border areas. This committee will define its structure and authority in the coming weeks.

According to the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a follow-up meeting will be held in Istanbul on November 6 to further discuss the implementation of this mechanism.
