Over 700 People Dead, 900+ Injured in Pakistan Due to Continuous Rain and Flooding; Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Worst Hit. Army Launches Relief Operation, Evacuates Thousands.
Pakistan Rain Alert: Continuous heavy rainfall and flash floods in Pakistan have completely disrupted normal life. The situation is so severe that the government has had to enlist the army's help for relief and rescue operations. So far, over 700 people have died, and the number of injured has exceeded 900.
Rising Death Toll
According to a report by Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), 706 people have died since June 26. In the last 24 hours alone, 24 people have lost their lives. The number of injured has also reached 965. The continuous rain is worsening the situation, which is increasing the administration's concern.
Most Affected Areas
According to the NDMA, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been the most affected by this disaster, with 427 deaths reported there. In addition, 164 deaths have been recorded in the Punjab province, 29 in Sindh, 22 in Balochistan, 56 in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, and 8 in the Islamabad area. These figures clearly show that different parts of Pakistan have been affected by the floods.
Army Intensifies Relief and Rescue Operations
The Pakistan Army has put all its strength into relief and rescue operations. Army spokesperson Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that 9 relief camps have been established in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, through which 6,903 people have been safely evacuated and are being provided with medical assistance. Eight military units are constantly working in this province. Two battalions have been deployed in the Buner district. Along with this, army aircraft are also playing an active role in relief and supply operations.
Thousands Rescued
With the help of the army and administration, more than 25,000 people have been evacuated to safer locations. Drinking water, medicines, and food arrangements are being made in the affected areas. Temporary relief camps have been set up in many places to provide shelter to the displaced people.
Coordination Between Government and Agencies
Pakistan's Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ataullah Tarar, said that the central and state governments are working together with the NDMA and the army to carry out relief operations. Continuous meetings are being held to ensure that help reaches every district immediately. He said that the government is making every possible effort to ensure that relief reaches every affected person without delay.
Weather Department Warning
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a warning for the next 24 hours. According to the report, most parts of the country are likely to experience thunderstorms with b winds and heavy rainfall. This means that the flood and rain situation could worsen in the coming days.
Why Difficulties Are Increasing
Roads and bridges in the areas affected by rain and floods have suffered considerable damage. Roads have been broken in many places, and traffic has come to a complete standstill. This is making it difficult to deliver relief supplies. Additionally, the supply of electricity and water has also been disrupted, which has further increased the difficulties of the local people.
NDMA Alert
The NDMA has appealed to the general public to remain vigilant. People have been advised to stay away from rivers and waterlogged areas. Those living in areas where the risk is higher are being moved to safer locations.
