Pakistan strengthened their position in the second Test against the West Indies at Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain after reaching 266/2 in their first innings at the close of play on Day 2. Pakistan trailed the hosts by 78 runs after the West Indies were bowled out for 344.
Opening batter Abdullah Shafique marked his return to the Pakistan Test side after nearly 10 months with an unbeaten century. His innings played a key role in keeping Pakistan firmly in the contest. Captain Babar Azam also remained unbeaten as the pair added a substantial third-wicket partnership after the early loss of two wickets.
Abdullah Shafique returned to Pakistan's Test playing XI after a lengthy absence, having last played a Test against South Africa in October 2025. The selectors recalled him for this match, and he responded with an unbeaten 107 off 185 balls.
His innings included 10 fours and two sixes and was his sixth Test century. Shafique achieved the milestone while batting at No. 3 instead of his usual position in the batting order.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam also remained unbeaten after scoring 86 from 126 balls. His innings included 10 fours and one six.
The partnership between Babar and Shafique steadied the innings after the early setbacks and guided Pakistan into a b position at the end of the second day's play.
Chasing the West Indies' first-innings total of 344, Pakistan lost their first wicket at 34 when Imam-ul-Haq was dismissed for 14.
Abdullah Shafique and Azan Awais then rebuilt the innings. Azan scored 55 from 71 balls, including 10 fours, before being dismissed shortly after completing his half-century. Babar Azam then joined Shafique at the crease, and the pair carried Pakistan to 266/2 by stumps.
Earlier, the West Indies were dismissed for 344 in their first innings after resuming Day 2 on 266/2.
Captain Roston Chase top-scored with 70, while Justin Greaves also contributed useful runs. Kemar Roach added 19 in the lower order as the hosts finished with 344 after the middle and lower order were unable to build substantial partnerships.
For Pakistan, spinner Sajid Khan was the most successful bowler with four wickets. Mohammad Ali, Ubaid Shah and Ali Usman claimed two wickets each.
