SCO Summit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi adopted a firm stance on terrorism at the 25th summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) held in Tianjin, China. Questioning some countries for openly supporting terrorism, he stated that terrorism is against humanity and a double standard on this issue cannot be accepted under any circumstances.
Reference to the Pahalgam Attack
In his address, PM Modi referred to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. He said this attack was not just an attack on India but a direct attack on humanity. India has suffered the scourge of terrorism for the past four decades. Thousands of families have lost their loved ones. In such a situation, it is natural to question why some countries are openly supporting terrorism and why global solidarity is not visible on this issue.

Prime Minister Modi said that India's SCO policy is based on three pillars – Security, Connectivity, and Opportunity. He explained that security and stability are the foundation for the development of any country. Without security, development and investment are not possible.
Connectivity Opens New Doors for Development
Speaking on connectivity, PM Modi said that b connectivity not only promotes trade but also strengthens mutual trust and cooperation. India is increasing its connectivity with Afghanistan and Central Asia through projects like the Chabahar Port and the International North-South Transport Corridor. He emphasized that any connectivity project must respect sovereignty and territorial integrity.
New Dimensions of Opportunity
Speaking on Opportunity, PM Modi said that under India's presidency, the SCO has focused on themes such as startups, Digital Inclusion, Traditional Medicine, youth empowerment, and Shared Buddhist Heritage. He suggested creating a Civilizational Dialogue Forum under the SCO where ancient civilizations, art, and literature can be discussed.
Appeal for Global Solidarity Against Terrorism
PM Modi stated that the fight against terrorism cannot be won solely with weapons. It requires b efforts at the ideological level as well. All countries need to work together to prevent radicalization and guide the youth in the right direction.

The Prime Minister said that India is moving forward with the mantra of 'Reform, Perform, Transform'. He referenced India's efforts during the COVID pandemic and global economic instability, stating that India has tried to turn every challenge into an opportunity.
Focus on Organized Crime and Cybersecurity
PM Modi welcomed the formation of four new centers in the SCO to tackle challenges like organized crime, drug trafficking, and cybersecurity. He advocated for reforms in the United Nations (UN), stating that it would be unjust to confine the aspirations of the Global South within old structures.

At the end of his address, PM Modi extended his best wishes to the next SCO President and the President of Kyrgyzstan. He expressed confidence that cooperation among the organization's member countries will be further strengthened in the times to come.
