Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the supply of LPG cylinders in the country is secure and warned against the spread of rumours and black marketing. The government said it has strengthened monitoring of the supply chain and reinforced the control room mechanism.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued directions to central ministers to respond firmly to attempts to spread misinformation and panic regarding LPG supply. He stated that the supply of domestic cooking gas is fully secure and that the government is prepared to address any situation.
Instructions in Cabinet Meeting
According to sources, during the Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday the Prime Minister told ministers that some people are attempting to create unnecessary panic regarding LPG supply. He stated that misinformation circulating on platforms including social media should be responded to immediately with factual information.
The Prime Minister also said that due to global circumstances several countries are facing challenges, but India’s preparedness is b and LPG supply in the country is fully ensured.
Administrative Measures

The central government has taken administrative measures to monitor LPG supply. Home Secretary Govind Mohan held a meeting with Chief Secretaries and Directors General of Police of all states and Union Territories to review LPG availability and supply arrangements across the country. Senior officials from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and the Ministry of Consumer Affairs were also present at the meeting.
Monitoring of Supply Chain
Officials were directed to maintain strict monitoring of the LPG supply chain including bottling plants, distribution networks, and transportation systems. Refineries and petrochemical units were instructed to increase production and prioritize supply to domestic consumers. Controls have been applied on supply to commercial establishments such as hotels and restaurants to ensure adequate availability for domestic users.
Emergency Control Room
The Ministry of Home Affairs has strengthened the control room operating round the clock. Nodal officers from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Ministry of Petroleum are also part of the mechanism. The objective is to improve coordination with states, clarify the situation in real time, and take immediate action in case of disruptions or rumours.
Opposition Response
Opposition parties have criticized the government regarding LPG supply. The Indian National Congress and other opposition parties staged protests on social media and within the Parliament complex alleging that LPG supply has been affected. The opposition stated that cylinder supply has been disrupted in several cities and that people are standing in long queues. The government responded that the opposition is deliberately attempting to create an atmosphere of fear and confusion.
Warning on Black Marketing and Hoarding
The government warned that strict legal action will be taken against any individual or group found involved in hoarding or black marketing of LPG cylinders. Under the Essential Commodities Act the offence is considered serious. If found guilty, punishment can range from three months to seven years of imprisonment along with a fine. Authorities also have the power to seize cylinders.
Public Appeal
The government appealed to citizens not to store cylinders unnecessarily out of panic and not to pay attention to rumours. It stated that citizens should rely only on official information regarding LPG supply.
