Portugal Recognizes Palestine Amid Gaza Crisis, Backs Two-State Solution for Lasting Peace

Amid the Gaza crisis and demands for a ceasefire, Portugal has recognized Palestine as an independent state. The Foreign Minister stated at the United Nations that a two-state solution is the path to lasting peace.

Palestinian: The number of countries recognizing Palestine as an independent nation is continuously growing. Now, Portugal (Portugal) has also formally recognized Palestine, supporting the two-state solution. This announcement comes at a time when violence, humanitarian crisis, and demands for a ceasefire (ceasefire) in the Gaza Strip have intensified on international platforms.

Announcement Made at the United Nations

On Sunday, during a press conference held at the United Nations (United Nations) headquarters in New York, Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel made this announcement. He clearly stated that the recognition of the State of Palestine is a fundamental and permanent line of Portugal's foreign policy. According to Rangel, Portugal has always supported the two-state solution (two-state solution) and this path will lead to a just and lasting peace.

Portugal's Support for the Two-State Solution

Paulo Rangel clarified that the only resolution to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine lies in the two-state solution. He believes that lasting peace in the region is not possible until both communities receive the right to sovereignty (sovereignty) and self-determination (self-determination). Portugal's stance strengthens the position of those countries in the international community that have long advocated for this solution.

Humanitarian Crisis and Ceasefire Demand

The Foreign Minister expressed deep concern over the situation in Gaza in his statement. He stated that an immediate ceasefire (immediate ceasefire) is crucial to save innocent lives and ensure humanitarian aid (humanitarian aid) reaches affected areas. However, he also acknowledged that merely recognizing Palestine would not end the ongoing humanitarian tragedy in Gaza. It would require large-scale international cooperation, relief efforts, and a permanent peace agreement.
