Prime Minister Modi Begins Two-Day Visit to West Bengal and Assam, Launches Multiple Infrastructure Projects

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has begun a two-day visit to West Bengal and Assam, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, during which he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for multiple development projects across the two states.

On the first day of the visit, the Prime Minister will travel to Nagaon in Assam, where he will perform the ground-breaking ceremony for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor project. The project is intended to improve regional traffic movement and support tourism in the area.

Later in the day, the Prime Minister will address a public gathering in Malda, West Bengal, at around 1:45 pm. During the event, he will lay the foundation stones for several rail and road projects with a total estimated cost exceeding Rs 3,250 crore. He will also flag off four new Amrit Bharat Express trains through video conferencing. The trains include the New Jalpaiguri–Nagercoil Amrit Bharat Express, the New Jalpaiguri–Tiruchirappalli Amrit Bharat Express, the Alipurduar–SMVT Bengaluru Amrit Bharat Express, and the Alipurduar–Mumbai (Panvel) Amrit Bharat Express.

In the evening, at 6 pm, the Prime Minister will attend the traditional Bodo cultural festival ‘Bagurumba’ at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati. The event showcases the cultural heritage, dance forms, and traditions of the Bodo community.

On Sunday, the Prime Minister will visit Kaliabor in Assam’s Nagaon district to perform the ground-breaking ceremony for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor project, estimated to cost approximately Rs 6,950 crore. The project spans about 86 kilometres and is being developed as an eco-friendly national highway project. It includes a 35-kilometre elevated wildlife corridor passing through Kaziranga National Park and a 21-kilometre bypass section designed to ensure wildlife protection.

During the Assam visit, the Prime Minister will also flag off two additional Amrit Bharat Express trains: the Guwahati (Kamakhya)–Rohtak Amrit Bharat Express and the Dibrugarh–Lucknow (Gomti Nagar) Amrit Bharat Express.

The Prime Minister will also travel to Singur in West Bengal, where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for development projects worth around Rs 830 crore. He will flag off two new train services equipped with LHB coaches—the Radhikapur–SMVT Bengaluru Express and the Balurghat–SMVT Bengaluru Express.

In addition, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stones for four major railway projects in West Bengal, including the Balurghat–Hili new railway line, a next-generation freight maintenance facility at New Jalpaiguri, modernisation of the Siliguri loco shed, and the upgradation of the Vande Bharat train maintenance facility in Jalpaiguri district.
