Rajiv Shukla Appointed Interim BCCI President as Roger Binny Steps Down

A significant administrative change has occurred in Indian cricket ahead of the Asia Cup 2025. Roger Binny has stepped down as the BCCI President, and Vice-President Rajiv Shukla has been appointed as the interim President until the next elections. The next full BCCI election is scheduled to be held in September 2025.

Sports News: Ahead of the Asia Cup 2025, a major change has been witnessed within the BCCI. Roger Binny has resigned from his position as BCCI President, following which Vice-President Rajiv Shukla has been appointed as the interim President until the upcoming elections. The BCCI presidential election may take place in September. Shukla was unanimously appointed as the Chairman of the IPL in 2015 and was elected unopposed as the Vice-President of the BCCI on December 18, 2020.

According to reports, Shukla took charge as the interim President at the BCCI's apex council meeting held on Wednesday. The main agenda of the meeting was to discuss the new chief sponsor for Team India after Dream11's departure earlier this month.

Rajiv Shukla's Experience and Career

Rajiv Shukla has been actively involved in Indian cricket and its administration for a long time. He was unanimously appointed as the Chairman of the IPL in 2015. Additionally, Shukla was elected unopposed as the Vice-President of the BCCI on December 18, 2020. It is due to his experience and administrative acumen that he has been made the interim President after Roger Binny's resignation. Shukla assumed office at the BCCI's apex council meeting on Wednesday.

Why did Roger Binny leave the post of President?

The BCCI constitution is based on the recommendations of the Lodha Committee and the Supreme Court's order. Accordingly, the maximum age for office-bearers is set at 70 years. Roger Binny turned 70 on July 19, 2025. As per this rule, he had to vacate his post automatically. Binny is counted among the illustrious players of Indian cricket.

Roger Binny was part of the victorious 1983 Cricket World Cup winning team. He was the leading wicket-taker in that tournament.

  • A total of 77 wickets in ODIs
  • 47 wickets in Test cricket in 38 innings
  • Achieved two 5-wicket hauls
  • Played 27 Test matches and 72 ODI matches

His captaincy and experience led Indian cricket to many significant victories. Following Rajiv Shukla's appointment as interim President, the BCCI's primary agenda is to find a new chief sponsor for Team India. The board is looking for a new deal after Dream11 withdrew its sponsorship last month.
