Union Minister Kiren Rijiju Accuses Rahul Gandhi of Disrespecting the Constitution. Advises him to adopt political wisdom, citing Supreme Court's observation.
Delhi: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. He alleged that Rahul Gandhi has neither read the Indian Constitution nor does he respect it. Rijiju stated that he has no "medicine" to correct Rahul Gandhi. He made this comment in light of the Supreme Court's observation on the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Bihar.
Citing Supreme Court's Observation
Speaking to the media, Kiren Rijiju said that the Supreme Court recently clarified that the Aadhaar card is not a definitive proof of citizenship. Furthermore, the court upheld the Election Commission's process of revising the voter list. This process involves removing the names of deceased voters and adding new voters. Rijiju said that this system has been in place since independence and is necessary for the democratic system.
Advice to "Intelligent" People in Congress
In a sarcastic tone, Rijiju said that there are some intelligent and clever people in Congress as well. He appealed to these individuals to collectively impart "wisdom" to Rahul Gandhi. He stated that not everyone is like Rahul Gandhi, so the sensible people in the party should come forward and show him the right direction.
"I Have No Medicine to Correct Him"
The Union Minister said that the responsibility of explaining things to Rahul Gandhi lies with the senior leaders of Congress. He said sarcastically, "I have no medicine to correct him." Rijiju further added that after the Supreme Court's clear observation, Rahul Gandhi should understand the seriousness of the situation.
Rahul Gandhi's "Deceased Voter" Video
On Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi shared a video with some people in Bihar who had been declared dead by the Election Commission. In the video, Rahul Gandhi was seen interacting with these people over tea, calling it a "unique experience." The video showed how these people's names were removed from the voter list during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
Rijiju's Response: "It's Just a Drama"
Reacting to Rahul Gandhi's video, Rijiju called it merely a "drama." He said that the Election Commission has a clear mandate to remove the names of deceased people from the voter list and add the names of new eligible voters. He alleged that Rahul Gandhi is making this process a political issue instead of understanding it.
Clarification on the Election Commission's Process
The Union Minister clarified that the Election Commission has 3-4 fixed guidelines for updating the voter list. In every state, there are officials under the Election Commission, who remain under the state government and update the voter list. The Supreme Court has also acknowledged that the SIR process has been going on for a long time and there is nothing wrong with it.
