Ahead of the upcoming ODI series between India and Australia, Indian team's star batsman Rohit Sharma has given his reaction. The BCCI made a big change before this series, appointing Shubman Gill as India's new ODI captain and Shreyas Iyer as vice-captain.
Sports News: India's star batsman and former ODI captain Rohit Sharma has given his reaction ahead of the ODI series against Australia. The BCCI recently appointed Shubman Gill as India's new ODI captain and Shreyas Iyer as vice-captain. Alongside this, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been included in the team, but they have not been given any captaincy responsibilities.
In March 2025, India had won the Champions Trophy under Rohit's captaincy. Therefore, the decision to remove him from ODI captaincy came as a surprise to many fans and cricket experts. Now, following this decision, Rohit Sharma's first reaction has emerged, in which he has expressed his excitement for the Australia tour.
Rohit Sharma's First Reaction
On Tuesday, during the CEAT Awards ceremony, Rohit Sharma said, 'I really enjoy playing against Australia and playing there. The people there love cricket immensely.' This statement made it clear that despite being removed from captaincy, Rohit's commitment to the team and the game remains. He also added in his remarks that he always likes to contribute to the team and play with young players.
BCCI's chief selector Ajit Agarkar stated that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been included in the ODI team, but the change in captaincy was a strategic decision. Agarkar said,
'For now, they are playing in this format, and that's why they have been selected for the team. It's not necessary to talk about the 2027 ODI World Cup right now. This is the general thinking behind the change in captaincy.'
When asked about Rohit's reaction, Agarkar said that the decision was a discussion between him and Rohit, but Rohit had been fully informed.
