Significance of Lighting a Lamp Near Tulsi During Chaturmas

Significance of Lighting a Lamp Near Tulsi During Chaturmas

According to the Hindu calendar, the Chaturmas period has begun with Devshayani Ekadashi. This four-month period runs from Ashadh Shukla Ekadashi to Kartik Shukla Ekadashi. During this time, auspicious ceremonies like weddings, mundan (tonsuring), and housewarmings are generally paused, and emphasis is given to spiritual practices, self-control, and devotion.

During Chaturmas, Lord Vishnu enters a yogic sleep, and the worship of Tulsi (holy basil) holds special significance. Tulsi is considered to be very dear to Vishnu, and therefore, lighting a lamp near the Tulsi plant during this period is believed to bring many wonderful benefits.

Blessings of Both Vishnu and Lakshmi

Tulsi is considered to be the most beloved devotee of Lord Vishnu. It is believed that worshiping Tulsi pleases Lord Vishnu instantly. If a lamp is lit near the Tulsi plant every evening during Chaturmas, then the blessings of both Vishnu and Lakshmi are obtained. This lamp dispels poverty, obstacles, family disputes, and financial hardship.

This tradition of lighting a lamp on Tulsi is not only religious but also provides mental peace. When Lakshmi resides in the house, prosperity, happiness, and peace automatically come.

Transmission of Positive Energy and Peace

The Tulsi plant itself is a source of positive energy. When a lamp is lit in front of it, that energy becomes even more powerful. Lighting a lamp on Tulsi in the evening purifies and makes the atmosphere of the house sattvic (pure and virtuous). This destroys negative energies and also reduces mental stress.

This tradition is also considered very effective for maintaining peace in the house and promoting harmony and communication in relationships.

Relief from Planetary Afflictions and Financial Crisis

In astrology, lighting a lamp of ghee or sesame oil in front of Tulsi strengthens the planets Jupiter and Venus. These two planets affect conditions related to wealth, marriage, education, and children in a person's life. If a person is going through financial difficulties, facing repeated obstacles in their job, or seeking remedies for planetary peace, this practice is considered particularly fruitful.

Especially on Thursdays, lighting a lamp on Tulsi provides relief from Jupiter's affliction and brings stability of wealth in the house.

Pacification of Pitra Dosha (ancestral curse) and Diseases

Those who have Pitra Dosha in their horoscope often face unexplained obstacles in life, family unrest, and health problems. Lighting a lamp on Tulsi is a powerful remedy that can provide relief from these afflictions. It also becomes a medium for the peace of the souls of the ancestors.

In addition, this remedy is particularly beneficial for those who are repeatedly afflicted with illnesses. The flame of the lamp and the energy of Tulsi together provide a positive impact on both the body and mind.

Things to keep in mind while lighting a lamp on Tulsi

  • Light the lamp on Tulsi only in the evening. In the morning, only water should be offered.
  • Use only pure cow's ghee or sesame oil in the lamp.
  • Place the lamp facing east or north.
  • While lighting the lamp, chant the mantra 'Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya' or 'Om Tulsyai Namah'.
  • Offering fresh flowers, unbroken rice grains (akshat), and Tulsi leaves along with the lamp is also considered auspicious.

Tulsi worship becomes special during Chaturmas

During Chaturmas, serving, worshiping, and offering a lamp to Tulsi not only pleases Lord Vishnu but also makes the entire atmosphere sattvic. These four months are like a spiritual journey in themselves, in which Tulsi worship emerges as a special milestone.
