A six-month pregnant student on her way to appear for the matriculation examination died in a road accident in Patna on Thursday. The incident occurred while she was travelling to her examination centre to sit for the Science paper scheduled for the day.
According to family members, the student was six months pregnant and had continued her studies despite her condition. The Science examination was scheduled in both shifts of the matriculation exam on Thursday. She had left home early to reach the centre on time when she was struck by a speeding vehicle while crossing the road or travelling.
Local residents attempted to take her to a hospital immediately, but her condition deteriorated on the way. Doctors declared her dead upon arrival. The unborn child also did not survive the accident.
The incident led to mourning in the family and the locality. Villagers stated that she was serious about her studies and was determined to appear for the examination under any circumstances.
Police reached the spot and began an investigation. Efforts are underway to identify the vehicle involved in the accident. CCTV footage from nearby cameras is being examined to ascertain the exact sequence of events.
With the Science examination being held across various centres in the district, students had gathered at examination venues, but the incident cast a shadow over the day. Education department officials expressed grief over the incident.
Local residents have demanded special traffic arrangements and police deployment around examination centres during exam days to prevent such incidents.
