The Election Commission informed the Madras High Court that a special intensive revision of the electoral roll in Tamil Nadu would commence next week. During the SIR, the complaint of former MLA B. Satyanarayanan would also be addressed.
Chennai: Following Bihar, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in Tamil Nadu will now begin next week. This information was provided by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to the Madras High Court. The Commission assured that local complaints would also be taken into consideration during the SIR.
The Election Commission informed the Court that just as the SIR was conducted in Bihar, the same process would be initiated in Tamil Nadu within a week. This will help update the electoral roll and remove incorrect entries before the 2026 assembly elections.
Action to be taken on AIADMK leader's complaint

Preparations for the SIR are underway at a time when former All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) MLA B. Satyanarayanan has filed a petition in court. He alleges that approximately 13,000 AIADMK supporters' names were removed from the electoral roll in Chennai's T. Nagar constituency.
The petitioner stated that there is an inconsistency between the region's population and the number of voters. For instance, in 1998, the number of voters in T. Nagar was 2,08,349, while by 2021, it had increased by only 36,656. Furthermore, names of deceased persons still remain on the list.
ECI Assures Solution Through SIR
The Election Commission assured the High Court that Satyanarayanan's complaint would be considered during the SIR. Accepting the petitioner's request, the Court adjourned the hearing until next week and instructed the Commission to present a copy of the Supreme Court's order related to the Bihar SIR. This process will ensure that incorrect entries are removed and the final electoral roll is completely accurate and updated.
