A lengthy phone conversation occurred between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, but no concrete results emerged regarding a ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine war. Putin remains steadfast in his objectives.
Russia-Ukraine War: Former U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin recently held a long phone conversation. During the call, the two leaders discussed several international issues, including Iran and the Russia-Ukraine war. However, Trump himself acknowledged that the conversation did not yield any concrete progress toward ending the war in Ukraine.
Trump stated, "We had a conversation, it was a long conversation. We discussed many issues, including Iran, and as you know, we also talked about the war with Ukraine. I am not happy about the war between Russia and Ukraine not ending."
Putin Refuses Ceasefire
According to American media reports, Putin's senior advisor, Yuri Ushakov, provided information about the call. According to him, the conversation was 'open and concrete,' but when Trump proposed an immediate ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine war, Putin did not agree. Putin made it clear that Russia is committed to advancing its stated objectives and that the possibility of a political solution will only be sought through dialogue.
Past Ceasefire Attempts Also Failed
It is noteworthy that talks between Russia and Ukraine took place in Istanbul in May, but they also proved fruitless. Furthermore, Trump had previously claimed during his election campaign that if he became president, he would end the Russia-Ukraine war within 24 hours.
However, his efforts so far have not met with any success. Trump told reporters, "No, in the conversation with me, he (Putin) did not take the conversation further."
American Stance on Arms Supplies
When Trump was asked if the United States was placing any restrictions on sending missiles and ammunition to Ukraine, he denied it. He said, "We haven't done that. We are giving weapons and helping Ukraine. Biden has emptied our entire country by giving them weapons. Now we have to decide whether we have enough weapons for ourselves."
However, according to a report by NBC News, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth ordered the halt of some weapons shipments due to concerns about military stockpiles. This was confirmed by two congressional officials and other sources.
Criticism of the Biden Administration
Trump criticized the Biden administration's foreign policy, saying that the current president has put America's military preparedness at risk. He said that while helping Ukraine, the United States should ensure that it does not weaken its own defense capabilities.
