Big relief news for farmers of Uttar Pradesh. State Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi has instructed to further expand the scope of Kisan Credit Card (KCC) and Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).
Lucknow: Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi has expressed displeasure over a large number of farmers in the state not joining the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. He informed that recently more than two crore farmers of the state were given honorarium, while the number of those who took insurance is only 20.41 lakh, which is very low compared to expectations.
Furthermore, the minister expressed concern over the slow progress of the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme. He warned bank representatives and insurance companies that action would be taken against them if negligence continues.
Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi's Displeasure
Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi expressed his displeasure over the low coverage in the insurance scheme and the slow progress of KCC. He stated that in the recent past, more than two crore farmers of the state were given honorarium, while the number of farmers who took insurance is only 20.41 lakh, which is significantly less than expected.
He clarified that negligence by banks and insurance companies will not be tolerated and strict action will be taken against the concerned officials. The minister said, "The scope of KCC and farmer insurance schemes should be increased as much as possible so that every farmer can get its benefits."
Swift Action in Flood-Affected Areas
Surya Pratap Shahi directed to immediately complete the assessment of crop damage in flood-affected areas and commence the compensation process. He also ordered the prompt resolution of pending cases and the updating of all data on the portal by September 14. The minister said that all concerned officials should work with full diligence to ensure quick resolution of farmers' problems.
After the meeting, the Agriculture Minister held a meeting with representatives and sellers of fertilizer companies at the National Botanical Research Institute. He said that farmers should not face any difficulty in the availability of fertilizers. The minister claimed that currently, sufficient quantities of fertilizers are available in the state:
- Urea: 6.21 lakh tonnes
- DAP: 4.64 lakh tonnes
- NPK: 3.68 lakh tonnes
He listened to the problems of fertilizer sellers and directed the concerned companies to resolve them. Additionally, he warned of strict action against complaints related to over-pricing or tagging.
