Uttar Pradesh has started September with torrential rains. The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert in 42 districts, while very heavy rainfall is anticipated in 15 districts. Lightning strikes have also been warned in several areas.
Lucknow: The monsoon has once again become active with full force in Uttar Pradesh. The heavy downpour on Sunday provided relief from the humid heat, but now the Meteorological Department has issued a major alert. An orange alert for heavy rain has been implemented on Monday (September 1) in a total of 42 districts, including Lucknow and Saharanpur. Thunderstorms and lightning strikes are expected in many districts. The Meteorological Department states that this spell of rain will continue for the next 24 hours, and during this period, a drop of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in the maximum temperature will be observed.
Risk of heavy rainfall in several districts of Western UP
The western part of Uttar Pradesh is experiencing the most impact of the rain this time. Very heavy rainfall is predicted in Saharanpur, Shamli, Baghpat, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Meerut, Moradabad, Rampur, Badaun, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, and Shahjahanpur. These districts have also been warned of thunderstorms and lightning strikes.
The local administration has advised people to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel. Continuous heavy rainfall can lead to waterlogging and flood-like situations in low-lying areas, hence people have been urged to stay indoors for safety.
Orange alert issued in 29 districts including Lucknow
A warning for heavy rainfall and lightning strikes has been issued in 29 districts, including Noida, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Hathras, Etah, Mainpuri, Kannauj, Farrukhabad, Kanpur, Fatehpur, Sitapur, Hardoi, Unnao, Lucknow, Barabanki, Bahraich, Raebareli, Amethi, Pratapgarh, Kaushambi, Chitrakoot, Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, and Sant Ravidas Nagar.
Farmers in these districts have been advised to exercise special caution, as continuous rain can damage the kharif crops. Additionally, waterlogging and traffic jams may occur in cities.
Yellow alert in several districts of UP
A yellow alert has been issued in districts such as Mathura, Agra, Firozabad, Etawah, Auraiya, Shravasti, Gonda, Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Jaunpur, Varanasi, and Chandauli. These areas will experience rain with thunderstorms, but the level of danger is not as severe as the orange alert.
Nevertheless, the Meteorological Department has warned people not to stand in open spaces or under trees to avoid lightning strikes and to seek shelter in safe locations.
Appeal to local residents to travel safely
Light to moderate rainfall is expected in districts such as Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Kushinagar, Deoria, Ballia, Basti, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Mau, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, and Ghazipur. No specific alert has been issued in these districts, but the Meteorological Department has clarified that it is important to exercise caution due to the suddenly changing weather. Local residents have been advised to travel safely during the rain and to stay updated on weather-related information.
