A heart-wrenching road accident occurred in the city of Roorkee, Uttarakhand, on Sunday, leaving everyone shaken. The tragic incident took place in the Civil Lines Kotwali area, where a speeding car ran over a young woman on her way to the office while she was crossing the road with an umbrella in the rain. The severity of the accident can be gauged by the fact that the woman died on the spot.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the site, and the video is now rapidly going viral on social media. The video clearly shows that instead of stopping, the car accelerated and dragged the woman after hitting her. The scene is so horrific that it has sent shivers down the spines of those who have seen it.
Police Initiate Investigation
Upon receiving information about the accident, the local police reached the spot and took possession of the body, sending it for a post-mortem examination. The police have registered a case and recovered the vehicle involved in the collision. However, the car driver has been absconding since the accident, and a police team has been formed to search for him.
According to preliminary information, the deceased woman was walking to her office. She was walking in the rain with an umbrella when a speeding car coming from behind hit her with great force. Eyewitnesses said that it seemed as if the car would stop, but the driver increased the speed and ran over the woman.
The police are now trying to identify the accused based on CCTV footage and other evidence. Simultaneously, the deceased is also being identified, and her family has been informed.
Major Accident in Rudraprayag as Well
Earlier, on Sunday, a major accident was reported in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand as well. A mini-bus carrying pilgrims from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh fell into the Alaknanda River. The bus was heading towards Badrinath Dham. At the time of the accident, there were about 20 passengers, including the driver, in the bus.
So far, six deaths have been confirmed in this incident. One of the bodies was recovered about 150 kilometers away in Haridwar, which gives an idea of the severity of the accident. Relief and rescue operations are being carried out rapidly by the administration, police, and SDRF teams. The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals, and the deceased are being identified.
Road Safety Once Again Questioned
Both incidents once again raise questions about how dangerous speeding and negligence can be on the road. While the Roorkee incident took a precious life, the bus accident of pilgrims in Rudraprayag has plunged many families into mourning.
The administration has appealed to follow road safety rules and exercise special caution. At the same time, the general public should also learn from these incidents and drive responsibly to prevent the recurrence of such tragic events.
