Dehradun: Continuous rainfall and cloudburst incidents on Monday night have wreaked havoc in many districts of Uttarakhand. Reports of waterlogging, landslides, and washed-away bridges have emerged from areas like Dehradun, Mussoorie, and Sahastradhara. One person has been reported dead in this disaster, while several are missing. The state government and the central government are engaged in relief and rescue efforts.
Damage due to heavy rain in Dehradun and surrounding areas
Secretary of Disaster Management, Vinod Kumar Suman, stated that significant damage has occurred in Sahastradhara, Maldevta, and Mussoorie in the Dehradun district. People stranded in Geeta Bhawan due to waterlogging in Tehri have been safely evacuated. Two to three people are reported missing in Dehradun. A death has been reported in Mussoorie, which is being confirmed.
Local officials report that roads, houses, and shops have been damaged due to heavy rainfall. The incidents of bridges being washed away and landslides have created an atmosphere of panic among residents and tourists.
Relief and rescue operations continue amidst heavy rainfall
The state government has launched relief and rescue operations on a war footing. 300 to 400 people have been moved to safe locations. NDRF, SDRF, police, and local administration are continuously active. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is visiting the affected areas to assess the ground situation.
Dhami met with affected families, assured them of all possible assistance, and directed officials to halt the movement of tourists in areas vulnerable to landslides and floods. The administration has issued an alert and appealed to people to stay in safe locations.
Dehradun IT Park and surrounding areas affected by floods
Waterlogging in the IT Park area of Dehradun has caused water to enter several offices and basements. Local resident Hrithik Sharma reported that his car is submerged in water and he had been stranded since morning.
The Song river is in spate, and there is an increased threat of floods in the surrounding areas. Harigiri, Magistrate of the Sadar sub-division, stated that the water level is continuously rising, and the current is b. The administration and relief teams are continuously monitoring the situation and attempting to prevent any untoward incidents.
Roads closed due to landslides in Nainital and relief work ongoing
Landslides have occurred in Nainital and surrounding areas due to heavy rainfall. The road in Majhara village has been blocked by debris, causing people to get stranded. Local residents reported that they narrowly escaped the landslides and some people are missing.
The Chief Minister's Office informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have been briefed about the situation. The central government has assured the state of all possible assistance. The administration and relief workers are working to ensure safe access to every affected family.
