In Varanasi city, to quickly resolve street light malfunctions and ensure illumination in the alleys at night, the Municipal Corporation has implemented the 'One Ward One Gang' scheme. Under this new system, a specialized technical team has been deployed in each ward, tasked with the maintenance, repair, and monitoring of street lights.
The aim of this new system is to swiftly address complaints regarding faulty street lights. Now, upon receiving information about a light being out in any ward, the assigned team will promptly reach the location to fix the issue. According to officials, this initiative will not only provide citizens with better lighting but also enhance security during nighttime hours.
Municipal Corporation officials stated that with the increasing number of street lights in the city, complaints of malfunctions were also on the rise. This 'One Ward-One Gang' model is expected to clarify responsibilities and accelerate the work. Each team has been equipped with essential tools, ladders, wires, fitting materials, and a live location system.
Following this initiative, it is hoped that no area, from the city's main thoroughfares to its narrowest alleys, will remain in darkness. Citizens have also welcomed this step, stating that it will ensure safer movement at night and help deter criminal incidents.
