The Delhi High Court has issued an interim injunction on Patanjali's Chyawanprash advertisements, based on a petition filed by Dabur. It is alleged that Patanjali is making false claims and engaging in misleading advertising.
Delhi News: The Delhi High Court has restrained Patanjali Ayurved from airing disparaging TV advertisements against Dabur India's Chyawanprash. The order came after a petition filed by Dabur India, alleging that Patanjali was running defamatory and misleading advertisements. Under the interim order, the court has directed Patanjali to refrain from broadcasting any such advertisements.
Dabur's Allegation: False Claims and Misleading Information
In its petition, Dabur India claimed that Patanjali was promoting the use of 51 herbs in its Chyawanprash, while in reality, it contains only 47 herbs. Dabur described this as a move to mislead consumers and create a false image in the market.
The petition also stated that Patanjali's advertisements convey the message that only they make the genuine and pure Chyawanprash because they possess knowledge of the Vedas and Ayurveda. Dabur stated that this was against the spirit of competition and a violation of consumer rights.
Advertisement Aired 6,182 Times in Recent Weeks
Dabur's lawyer informed the court that despite receiving summons and notices, Patanjali had aired these allegedly disparaging advertisements 6,182 times in the past few weeks. The court expressed its displeasure and directed that Patanjali should not air any further advertisements that damage the image of Dabur or its products.
Interim Order, Next Hearing on July 14
The Delhi High Court, while hearing Dabur's petition, issued an interim injunction on Patanjali's advertising campaign. The court clarified that until a final decision is made in the case, Patanjali cannot broadcast any advertisement, whether on TV or any other medium, that tarnishes the image of Dabur's products. The next hearing in the matter is scheduled for July 14.
