A severe cold wave has gripped North India with the arrival of the new year. Delhi-NCR is experiencing a cold wave, resulting in a drop in temperature. Increased cold and frost are also being reported in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand.

Weather: The new year is beginning in North India with freezing cold and dense fog. According to the meteorological department, the cold wave will continue to affect states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand, including Delhi-NCR. In the national capital, dense fog and b cold winds in the morning are likely to intensify the chill.

Western Uttar Pradesh and Bihar will also experience below-normal temperatures, causing people to endure the harsh cold. Temperatures in areas like Churu and Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan could drop close to freezing, while fog in Punjab and Haryana could impact traffic.

Impact of Cold Wave in Delhi

The cold wave's impact continues in Delhi-NCR, with the cold spell persisting. According to the meteorological department, this chilly weather is expected to last for the next few days, potentially causing a temperature drop in Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad during the new year. The minimum temperature on Tuesday morning was recorded at 9.6 degrees Celsius, 2.6 degrees above normal, compared to 10.3 degrees Celsius on Monday.

The meteorological department predicts cold days with dense fog in Delhi and surrounding areas. Additionally, there is a possibility of fog or light mist in the evenings and nights. Delhi's maximum temperature could reach up to 15 degrees Celsius, further intensifying the cold.

Impact of Cold Wave in Jharkhand

Jharkhand is expected to experience a drop in temperature between three to five degrees Celsius in the next two days. According to the meteorological department, the new year was greeted with dense fog and cold winds in the state. Abhisek Anand, the officer in charge of the Ranchi Meteorological Center, stated that the weather will remain dry for the next five days, with fog expected in the morning. Dense fog is particularly likely in northern Jharkhand during the morning hours. Currently, the minimum temperature in Jharkhand ranges between 11 and 14 degrees Celsius.

Freezing Cold in These States

Punjab and Haryana are experiencing a severe cold wave with temperatures below normal. According to the meteorological department, Narnaul in Haryana registered the lowest minimum temperature at 4.5 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal. Hissar recorded 6.8 degrees Celsius, Bhiwani 6.7 degrees Celsius, and Sirsa 7.4 degrees Celsius. Ambala recorded a minimum temperature of 9.1 degrees Celsius.

Bathinda in Punjab was the coldest area, with a minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius. Sanga rur and Faridkot registered minimum temperatures of 5.3 and 6 degrees Celsius, while Ludhiana, Patiala, and Amritsar recorded 7.4, 8.9, and 9 degrees Celsius respectively. Chandigarh's minimum temperature was 9.4 degrees Celsius.

In Rajasthan, the impact of northern, frigid winds has intensified the cold wave, and the severe cold is affecting daily life. According to the Jaipur Meteorological Center, the cold wave is expected to continue for the next two to three days, with its impact potentially worsening today. Reduced visibility due to dense fog on Tuesday made road travel difficult in several districts, including Jaipur, Ajmer, Rajsamand, Sikar, Pali, Kota, Jodhpur, and Udaipur. The minimum temperature in the state capital, Jaipur, remained below 10 degrees Celsius.
