A 30-storey Bihar Bhavan will be constructed in Mumbai on the lines of the existing Bihar Bhavan in Delhi, aimed at providing accommodation and related facilities for patients from Bihar and their accompanying family members seeking medical treatment in the city.
Mumbai is regarded as a major medical hub, with thousands of patients from Bihar travelling there each year for treatment of serious illnesses at large hospitals. During treatment, accommodation and high rental costs are reported as the primary challenges faced by patients and their families.
The proposed Bihar Bhavan will have approximately 30 floors and will include arrangements for lodging for patients and their attendants. Facilities planned include rooms at affordable rates, dormitories, food services, and other essential amenities. The building will also be equipped with lifts, parking facilities, and security arrangements.
The Mumbai facility is planned to be developed on the model of the Bihar Bhavan in Delhi, where accommodation and related services are already available for people from Bihar. The same operational framework is intended to be followed in Mumbai to ensure support for patients during the course of their treatment.
According to the state government, the facility is expected to reduce the financial burden on patients and their families. At present, patients undergoing treatment in Mumbai are required to stay in hotels or private lodges, which involve high costs.
Plans also include setting up an information centre within the Bihar Bhavan to provide details related to hospitals, treatment procedures, and other necessary information. Information on government assistance schemes is also proposed to be made available at the centre.
